The XK120 was unveiled at the London Motor Show in 1948, generating considerable excitement. Its design, the work of William Lyons and chief engineer William Heynes, was innovative for its time, featuring elegant lines and a long hood housing a 3.4-liter inline-six engine producing 160 horsepower. The “120” in Jaguar XK referred to the car’s top speed in its aluminum version—120 mph (193 km/h)—making it the fastest production car in the world at the time of its launch! Available in both coupe and roadster versions, the XK120 enjoyed notable success in motorsport, including victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951 and 1953.
